Independence Square

Independence square- orginally called Pall Mall Square-was acquired by the Government in 1750 and renamed on the occasion of St. Kitts & Nevis achieving political independence on September

19, 1983. The Square has the significance of being a site of the slave market where slaves arriving from Africa were temporarily housed in the basement of a building on the south side of the Square.

 

St.Kitts Scenic Railway

St. Kitts has one of the few remaining operational rail tracks in the Caribbean, which begun 1910 as part of the modernization thrust in the sugar industry in the early 20th Century. This antique infrastructure has been updated and remains in use today as a scenic passenger railway.
 

Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park

Located just 10 miles north-west of Basseterre, in the Sandy Point and easily accessible from the island’s main road, the Brimstone Hill Fortress-also known as the “Gibraltar of the West Indies –is a World Heritage Site, which rises majestically from the upper slopes and flattened top of a 750 foot volcanic cone. In addition to a panoramic view of the countryside, this site also provides Caribbean history at the Visitor’s Centre and the museum. There is also a gift shop on site which opens from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 pm Monday to Saturday.
 

Black Rocks

A series of lava deposits left centuries ago on the island’s northern coast, Black Rocks has magnificent high cliffs shaped by the crashing waves .On a clear day, the spray from the water creates picturesque rainbow.
